"BEAUTY IS EVERYWHERE"
As the years pass my eyes are continually being opened more and more to the beauty that surrounds me. It seems that every place I travel, every trail I trek, every city I explore, full of new sights, sounds and smells leaves me with a greater sense of awe and wonder.
It’s always been easy for me to draw near to God while taking in the beauty of His creative handiwork. Having grown up in Colorado, surrounded by mountains that drew me in and sun that shines steadily in the bluest of skies, it took no great leap of my imagination to commune with an even bigger and more beautiful Creator. I couldn’t help but sing the hymn, “How Great Thou Art”! There is something about being enveloped by swaying lodgepole pines and rock faces, shooting up toward the heavens, that stirs my soul, increasing my passion and longing to connect and simply rest in my Fathers perfect company. It’s in those moments that He inspires, enriches, and reveals more of his heart to me.
However, I will admit, there have been times in my life when I didn't think that beauty could be found everywhere. I thought you had to be near the mountains or on a sandy beach to behold such beauty. But I’ve come to believe that I was wrong. Over the last few years The Lord has been bringing me into a greater revelation of true beauty and changing my heart little by little. One of these small steps took place on what was expected to be a less than extraordinary trip to the Midwest a couple of years ago. I wasn't expecting much revelation on the beauty of The Lord, but I suppose that’s often when God teaches us the most, when we least expect it! On this trip to visit family, I would wake up every morning and start my day off with a run. I would step outside and make my way down the road, the birds would sing their songs of praise and the cool morning breeze would blow with the fragrance only a new day can bring. The rolling pasture land was clothed with the most vibrantly green grass, dotted with cows and horses delighted in their home. And it was in these mornings that I discovered, I didn't have to be on top of a mountain or fishing the rivers that make their way through the valleys in order to see Gods beautiful craftsmanship. It was there, in the unlikely place, that these words would burst from my soul:
"When through the woods, the forest glades I wonder
and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze.
Then sings my soul, my savior God to thee;
How great thou art! How great thou art!"
There is a world of beauty that I know I have yet to explore. I know that The Lord will continue to unfold and declare His mighty works, allowing me to see and know wholeheartedly that He is at work in this world and that His beauty indeed is everywhere.
